Date Of Birth: February 20, 1954
Date Of Death: July 6, 2010

Our beloved Jama went to be with her Lord and Savior July 6, 2010 after battling ovarian cancer for seven years. Her love for Jesus was the anchor of her soul and her strength during her illness. Jama was a 1972 graduate of Harrison High School in Evansville. She attended Purdue University where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, graduating in 1976 with a degree in Dietetics. She did her Dietetic Internship in Cincinnati, Ohio and served as a Dietitian at Clarian Health Partners for 30 years. Jama was active in Bible Study Fellowship and served many years as a Discussion Leader. In 2000 she was blessed to participate in a mission trip to Ukraine. She traveled extensively with friends and family in the States and abroad. She worshipped the Lord at College Park Church where she was a member for many years. She had many friends in the Indianapolis and Evansville (her hometown) area who prayed for and provided in many ways for her and her family during her illness. Jama’s words were “Lord, send them blessings from above!” Survivors include her father, Earl Hottenstein; sisters Diane Wolf (Mike), Susan Snyder (Norman) and Kara Morrissey; nephews Daniel Wolf, Luke Snyder (Bianca), Zach Snyder (Kellie), Joe Snyder (Rachel), Jordan Morrissey, and Thomas Morrissey; great nephews Marshall, Wade, Gabriel, and Kingston. She was preceded in death by her mother, Hilda Hottenstein.Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, July 12, at College Park Church, 2606 West 96th Street, Indianapolis. Services will follow at 12 p.m. with Don Bartemus officiating. Additional visitation will be Tuesday, July 13 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Park Lawn Cemetery in Evansville, IN with service to follow at 2 p.m. with David Niednagel officiating. In lieu of flowers, Jama’s wishes were that donations be made to Bible Study Fellowship, 19001 Huebner Road, San Antonio, TX 78258, or online at bsfinternational.org (Giving/Memorial and Honorarium Gifts).“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” II Corinthians 4:17-18.

Watching Jama live was an amazing privilege, and live she did..filling our lives with her strength, wisdom and humor. I can’t imagine her joy at seeing her Savior’s face, followed by a long hug from her Mom. She has finished with graceful sweetness. Yet as I try to make sense of losing her so young, I realized she did not leave without giving me something. Jama has left me her foot prints, foot prints I can follow and know that the journey may be hard, but it will end in triumph. Thank you Jesus for allowing us to enjoy your dear ones, even if to us their time here seems way too short. May the Grace that so obviously carried Jama carry her family and close friends during this time.

To Jama’s beloved family & friends, What a privilege it has been to know Jama through her work with cancer patients at Methodist Oncology Ctr. & in radiation therapy at Methodist Hospital. Jama was quite an example of perseverance, strong faith & joie de vivre to all who knew her and loved her as well as to the patients she served for so many years. Our prayers are with you all. While we know she has been completely healed in heaven, we will miss her here on earth.

    To the Bereaved Family:

It is with sadness that I learn of the demise of Jama today. I have many fond memories of her when she was a member of Christian Fellowship Church in Evansville, Indiana. Jama was a wonderful person full of promise for a life of dedication to others. She served the Lord with gladness and willingness of heart.

May you find comfort in the memories which remain and the promise that one day she will be reunited with you. Now she sleeps but in the morning she shall awaken to everlasting life.

My payers and thoughts are with the Hottenstein family. You have my deepest sympathy and condolences.

Words cannot express just what the heart wants to say in times such as this. I had the privilege of attending Bible Study Fellowship with Jama for several years. She is a most encouraging leader and sister in Christ. Jama truly has pressed on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called her heavenward in Christ Jesus.

I will miss her yet I, too, press on toward that same goal. We shall meet again and what a wonderful day that will be!

    Jama’s Departure
    July 6, 2010

The Eagle at last has landed in its nest
    There in the peaceful rest
She will see the divine light
    More bright
    Than that of the sun
That is the light of God’s Son
    Pain has become glory
    Faith became a true vision
    And promises
Are no longer to be hoped for
The journey of faith has ended
    Union with God is fulfilled

I was heart broken when I heard about Jama’s passing. Jama was a true and faithful friend and sister in Christ. She was the epitome of wit, grace and courage. My family was so grateful when she took care of our mother at Methodist. Jama had a “chandelier smile”, one who would light up the room when she walked into one’s presence. Her eyes sparkled as though they were full of laughter. Her love for our Lord and her witness for Jesus was unshakable. When talking to Jama, no matter what was going on with her she always made you feel important. Her bright and beautiful personality will be greatly missed in the days, months and years to come. I send my deepest heart-warm prayers to her entire family. Dueteronomy 31:8

Seeing Jama in April, for the first time in years, she was still the upbeat person she had always been in spite of the illness she was fighting. I have so much admiration for the way she lived her life and the courage she had to continue each day. I am thankful we had the time to reconnect and I could be reminded what a wonderful, caring person she was. My condolences to Kara and the rest of the family.

We love Aunt Jama! She was an amazing Aunt (in-law) and what I loved about her the most, other than her matter-of-fact personality was her love for Jesus. I am so thankful that I got to know her through the years and even more grateful that my sons got to experience the love of Jesus through their Aunt Jama. Missing her already.

While I knew her death was coming, I still find it takes my breath away. It was a real privilege to have Jama as my BSF leader and to continue our friendship through the years after. I will never understand in this life why this suffering fell on her but she sparkled with grace and joy despite it. I will never forget Jama and I look to see her in heaven, free of that troublesome body. Love to all her friends and family.

I was saddened to hear of Jama’s passing. It has been so many years since all of our paths have crossed in Evansville but Jama always had the gift to light up a room with God’s love. I know that continued right up to the end. It is the rest of you that are hurting right now. Cling to God and those precious memories of Jama. Someday you/we will all be reunited again. PTL.

To Jama’s family: It was a privilege to know Jama as we served together in BSF. She is truly a great witness of God’s power and peace. We often felt “partly related” as we were cousins on opposite sides to Bob and Paula Ress. My prayers are with you all at this most difficult time, but know she is at peace with the Lord. Jama always had that amazing glow. Kind, gentle, dedicated. I first met her when I was a resident at Methodist. Just seeing her in the halls could lighten a dreary day. Fast forward to the 2000’s when my husband needed radiation therapy and there she was again, part of the team, still glowing even later when she wore a hat.Heaven needed a good dentist and dietitician. We can rejoice that they are truly home.

    Dear family of Jama,

The celebration service at College Park is still on my mind. It was honoring to both the life and memory of Jama and the power of God in her life. I believe His Spirit spoke to everyone gathered there – hearts were touched and God was exalted. What a witness Jama was to all! Susan and Joe, I greatly appreciated your messages. The words were comforting and inspiring. You both expressed Jama’s spirit beautifully. It is evident that the Hottenstein “clan” is a loving family – what a blessing you were to Jama and are to each other.

I consider Jama one of my dearest friends and am thankful to have been blessed with her friendship. She had many gifts but it is evident by her numerous friends that one of her greatest gifts was cultivating meaningful friendships. Something we should all aspire to. I will miss her greatly. She was a true friend and for that I am forever grateful.

Our thoughts and prayers continue to be you,
    Jill, Gregg,and Luke
